Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

 Dr Alisn Rizzo is an avid runner and mother of two who knows just how important training your pelvic floor can be. She wants to help women return to the activities they love including running and weight lifting following childbirth without pain or leaking. Pelvic floor therapy is not limited to postpartum moms, but can include leaking during exercise or pain with intercourse.

What is the pelvic floor

The pelvic floor is a group of deep muscles that form a “sling” from your pubic bone to your tailbone. These muscle are responsible for supporting you internal organs, maintaining posture, controlling your bowel and bladder, and sexual functions. Pelvic floor dysfunction often occurs when these muscles become over or under active following surgery, postpartum to include vaginal and cesarean section deliveries, chronic low back pain, chronic pelvic pain, chronic hip pain, or nerve entrapments.

What is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Pelvic floor physical therapy can be done internally or externally. External Pelvic floor assessments are effective in treating pelvic floor dysfunction and is less invasive and often more comfortable for the patient. an internal Pelvic floor assessment will give alisn an understanding of specific muscle coordination and strength deficits that cannot be obtained with an external assessment. At your first appointment, Alisn will assess your symptoms to create a plan within your comfort level to address your concerns to get you back to what you love. critical to retraining your pelvic floor and help you achieve your goals.
